Project III
Capacity building on Water and Environmental Issues
Increasing and conflicting demands for water, pollution, and environmental degradation are issues in Ghana that put water resources under considerable pressure.
Awareness of the need for capacity building and integrated water resources management is high. The established of Water Resources Commission was established in 1996 indicates the country direction in this regard.
In Ghana, reliable data on the available water and environmental resources is the biggest challenge. It is therefore calls for new ways of reliably quantifying to understand the available resources through the use of remote sensing and GIS tools. These tools which far advanced in the developed world are quite new to the water management professionals in the country.
Green WaterHut is therefore focusing on bringing to doorsteps of stakeholders in the sector the use of Remote Sensing and GIS as the best alternative approach to addressing sustainable water and environmental management issues.
To do this, seminars would be organized bi-annually to educate water professionals with the use of some of these tools. This would equip water and environmental managers to be more informative and effective to improve monitoring and conservation of water and environmental resources in more reliable manner.
